Choose Aetna Better Health as your Cardinal Care or FAMIS plan. As a member, you’ll get extra benefits (PDF) that go beyond your standard health coverage. Here are a few of the extras you’ll receive:
$25 new mom monthly OTC benefit
Just had a baby or expecting one soon? If so, we want to help. Get $25 to spend on over-the-counter (OTC) baby and personal care supplies from CVS Health®. You can get them in store or delivered to your door at no extra cost.
$20 menstrual-care monthly OTC benefit
Members with monthly periods can enjoy $20 of CVS Health® OTC menstrual (period) care supplies every month. Shop for what you need from tampons and maxi pads to underwear and more. We'll even send these items to you at no extra cost.
Help buying food and groceries
Good nutrition is a big part of good health. Some members are eligible for a Healthy Food Card. This extra benefit is a special debit card we’ll add money to. You can use the money on the card to buy healthy food and groceries at local stores.
GED, training and career support
Need to earn your general education development (GED)? Or start a new career? We can help. Eligible members can get access to trainings from more than 3,000 online learning resources. We’ll also pay for your GED testing voucher which you can use at a nearby testing site.

Cardinal Care and expansion plans
- Online: Visit Virginia Managed Care.
- By mobile app: Download the free Virginia Managed Care app on your Android™ smartphone or iPhone®. Search for Virginia Managed Care on Google Play or the App Store®.
- By phone: Call the Managed Care Helpline at 1-800-643-2273 (TTY: 1-800-817-6608). You can call Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Tell them you choose Aetna Better Health of Virginia as your plan. If needed, you can get language services at no cost to you.
FAMIS
- Online: Visit CommonHelp Virginia.
- By phone: Call Cover Virginia at 1-833-5CALLVA (TDD: 1-888-221-1590). You can call Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 7 PM and Saturday, 9 AM to 12 PM. Tell them you choose Aetna Better Health of Virginia as your plan. If needed, you can get language services at no cost to you.
- In person: Visit your local Department of Social Services. Tell them you choose Aetna Better Health of Virginia as your plan.

FAMIS open enrollment
If you’re a FAMIS member, you can change your health plan when it’s time to renew your coverage (12 months after enrollment).
Haven’t applied for health benefits yet?
The first step is applying for Cardinal Care (Medicaid) or FAMIS benefits. Once you become enrolled, you can choose Aetna Better Health of Virginia as your plan.
