Do I qualify for Medicaid?

Understanding KanCare (Medicaid) can be a challenge. But we’re here to walk you through the process. The first step is to see if you qualify.

What is Medicaid?

What is Medicaid?

In Kansas, it’s called KanCare. It’s a government program that provides no-cost or low-cost health care for millions of Americans. Aetna Better Health® is a managed care organization (MCO) taking part in KanCare. An MCO is the health plan that provides your benefits. MCOs provide health coverage and standard benefits.

People who qualify for KanCare are covered for many benefits and services, like:

  • Preventive care
  • Vision care
  • Dental care
  • Medications
  • Disease management
  • Behavioral health services

What should you know about KanCare?

What should you know about KanCare?

It’s a program for adults and children who meet certain state guidelines. Eligibility is based on your total family income and household size. Once you apply, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment — Division of Health Care Finance (KDHE-DHCF) then reviews your enrollment in KanCare.

As part of your application and if you qualify, you can choose Aetna Better Health of Kansas as your health plan (or MCO). If you don’t choose a health plan at that moment, you’ll still have time to do so. You’ll be sent a form to complete upon approval for KanCare enrollment.

What if I have a disability?

What if I have a disability?

People who have disabilities can get more help in the form of monthly payments. The Social Security Administration offers two kinds of benefits:

For adults with children and little or no work history. To get help, you must meet certain income and asset limits. If you get SSI, you might also be able to get supplemental nutrition assistance (SNAP) and help with housing.

For people who have a work history but can no longer work. If you have SSDI, you can get Medicare after 2 years. Once you get Medicare, you can also get Part D to help with drug costs. Do you have SSDI and a dependent under age 18? If yes, they may also get benefits.

We use Centauri Health Solutions to help members apply for SSI and SSDI benefits. They follow HIPAA rules to keep your info private. You can watch a video English | Español about Centauri.
